Music is truly in the blood of this Chicago native. The great-nephew of the famed Thomas A. Dorsey, William A. Kurk was playing the drums at nine months of age - before knowing how to walk. Kurk's disciplined study began with the flute at the Merit School of Music at the age of 8. Many instruments and a variety of music were available to him growing up in his Grandmother's house. This began a journey of self-discovery for William Kurk. Listening to popular music was unavoidable, but receiving an early appreciation for classical, choral, jazz, and blues music through the influences of his Grandmother and Father planted a seed of musical appreciation that has grown into a fulfilling career in music.
Dabbling early on with the guitar, bass, and trumpet, William Kurk continued searching for his true instrument. With such a rich musical heritage, the most logical instrument for him was the piano. Singing had become a full-time study under his grandmother's guidance and continued throughout high school. His interest in writing music took hold at the age of 16. Sitting at the piano day and night, he developed the passion and ability to play piano without any formal training. Will attended NIU, Loyola, and graduated from Columbia College Chicago with a BA in Composition, and a Musical Theater Minor. He has played with The Dells, Martha Reeves, Melba Moore, Jon Faddis, Frank McComb (bass), The Coasters, The Platters, Malcolm-Jamaal Warner's Miles Long, and Paulina Rubio. Featured recording credits include Seal, Prophet Jones, Anthony Nicholson, Maysa Leak, Louie Vega, Roy Davis, Jr., Chester Gregory, and Debarge.
