The Return of the Female Emcee!

February 15, 2010

Remember female emcees? Before all the nakedness? When girls and boys actually bumped her album as loud as you bumped any other album (if it was dope)!

Guess what. She’s back. Her name is Rita J. No really…I met her. We even got to shoot a video for her. We had heard of Rita J. for years and waited enthusiastically for the album. And now it’s here.

We shot the video in one day and I can truly say, Rita J. is the real deal. I got all excited as she ripped the mic like a veteran. All while rocking the best afro I’ve seen in quite a while. That takes skill!
And she didn’t have to get naked to make it dope!!

Go watch the video again. Go ahead!

Music saves the day

December 1, 2009

A movie isn’t a movie until the music is added to it.

Something about seeing the opening title and the sound of music in a dark room always gets you excited, but so few times do filmmakers, especially on limited budgets, get it right. Luckily for me I had some of the best musicians on the planet to work on the music of ONLINE. They’re called Black Slang, but if you’ve listened to any jazz or contemporary rock albums from the last 5 years or so you’ve probably heard a few of them play before. In a short period of time they created a world class soundtrack that’s been getting rave reviews from all ages.

The process was loose…we discussed it and they came up with what they thought would work. They made a lot of music (I think they had fun), and it was our job to find what worked with the movie. And seeing the final product on the screen, with a crowd of enthusiastic people made all the work worth it.

ONLINE…WILL BE ONLINE

So, in case you didn’t notice, there’s a digital revolution going on. It actually happened about 10 years ago, but major companies are just starting to figure out what hit them. Televisions and theatres are just 2 of many ways people watch movies. As blockbusters become more advanced with the latest 3D technology, viewers are perfectly fine with watching movies on youtube made on people’s cell phones.

The digital revolution will finally make filmmaking TRULY independent!

We’re so sure of it, that we’ll be hosting an online premier for the short film, ONLINE. We’re picking 4 cities (3 stateside, one international) to promote an online premier at the same time that we’ll be hosting an “offline” party for the event in Chicago. Viewers who watch the film will also instantly enter to win special items related to the film, including a REALLY nice prize that I wish I had given to myself!

If interested in helping to promote, sponsor or get involved in our little revolutionary experiment, please .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). More details to come.

Here we go…

June 10, 2009

We got films to make!

Even though it shifts between 50 and 70 degrees in Chicago, it is summer! And that means The Junction’s got a lot to do. There’s a music video in the works (you’ll see that soon) and another short film. The first short will have a screening this year which will be a mini event in itself. And soon we’ll be submitting Daylight for funding (you’ll hear plenty about that).

Keep in touch and stay tuned. There’ll be plenty to see by the end of the summer.
